Hey folks! A few months ago, I talked about how I was looking for potential alternatives to Substack due to the service’s lax moderation policies of alt-right content. Ever since, I have been exploring different newsletter and blogging services to host QSQL. The process has been, in short, a damn nightmare.
Every option that I’ve come across was either too expensive, too complex, or did not have enough features to meet my needs. So, my current plan is to expand QSQL beyond just Substack while keeping this Substack account active, at least for now. What does this entail?
QuickSaveQuickLoad.com
I have spent the last few months building Quick Save Quick Load as a dedicated website which uses the Wordpress platform.
I wanted to give the website an almost newspaper-like or magazine-like design style. It wasn’t easy to find the right themes and plugins, but I think I got it 90% of the way there.
I’m mostly going to use it now for easier social media posting as well as building a unique brand identity. I’ve found that most social media platforms seem to muzzle posts from Substack, especially when compared to other platforms and self-hosted websites.
Having a design like this also makes for easier organization and archival of content. While I have no data to back this up, I get the impression that Substack is mostly read through email, so content can frequently get lost in the shuffle.
If you want to give the website a look, visit QuickSaveQuickLoad.com and feel free to comment here with any feedback you may have.
Discord Server
Regardless of a Substack newsletter or a dedicated website, building a community on the internet is pretty difficult. So sometime this year, I want to launch a public Discord server where we can collectively hang out and game, or whatever y’all want to do. It would also be an easy way we could share screenshots for the Photo Mode Gallery feature, which I always envisioned as a community-building feature to begin with.
There’s no timeline for a launch yet. That is dependent on readership numbers, but the Fall of 2024 is my current goal.
Quick Save Quick Load: The Podcast
QSQL could be a great brand for a podcast. I’ve thrown around a few ideas in my mind, but I’m thinking that it would be a similar format to Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings, hosted by news-man Jeff Grubb. That being a 30-minute to an hour-long news/discussion show with rotating guests.
Starting out though, it would likely be an under 15-minute one-man-show. I’m of course still working out the details.
I’d like to release it sometime in the Summer of this year.
Other Stuffs and Goodbye
I do have some other plans for things like a YouTube channel and other video projects, but those are so labor intensive that it doesn’t make sense to do it now.
So yeah, I want to thank you all for reading and I can’t wait to show you what I have in the pipeline.
