Year in Review - 2025
Could Have Been Worse
Hey folks! It’s been a minute since I did a text post on the blog. The last few months of QSQL work have been on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, and it’s been a blast. I do want to quickly review everything that I feel went right for the blog and a few avenues of improvement I want to take in the new year in order to make QSQL the best blog that I know I can make.
GOOD - Quality of Posts
I’m not an amazing writer by any stretch of the imagination, but I do want to be sure that every post and every video is as good as it can be, and I think this year I pulled it off. The reviews I wrote got the right blend of detailed and concise, and my videos are cleanly edited. Overall, not bad, in my humble opinion.
BAD - Frequency of Posts
Going into this review, this was obviously the number one area of improvement. My goal was to have one text post every week, a video every two weeks, and a livestream on Twitch every week. This did not happen. Sorry. Life happened, priorities shifted, and getting laid off sucks. 0/5 star experience. Thankfully, I’m back on my feet and now comfortably in a job that I’m doing well in and I feel respected at for the first time in my professional life. This should (hopefully) mean that I can get closer to that posting goal. While I think my original goal is still ambitious for my current life, I don’t want any part of the Quick Save Quick Load brand to feel neglected anymore.
GOOD - Future Projects
This mostly encompasses the podcast project I’m cooking up, Ohio’s Last Video Store. Currently, there is a trailer on Spotify, but given Spotify’s choices of political ads and leadership, I am migrating the hosting to Riverside. I already use Riverside for recording, so it was a natural fit. At this time, there is an episode finished, and there are plans for other guests to come on and record with me. My current goal for releasing the first batch of episodes is in the spring of 2026. Keep an eye out for more details.
BAD - Social Media and Networking
This ties in to the Frequency of Posts section, but I’ve not been great with engaging potential readers and viewers on social media platforms. TikTok has been the one exception, but with that, the line between social media and a video hosting platform is super-blurry. I also have not used social media for networking with other independent writers and gaming journalists, but hey, that’s what New Year’s Resolutions are for.
OVERALL
The last 18 months have been the first time period in which I’ve taken QSQL seriously as a publication. Life got in the way, but all things considered, I’m proud of what I’ve done during this time. I have a long way to go and I’m not amazing at this yet, but I truly feel like if I can be consistent with just making things in the new year, then the quality will come along for the ride. Thank you all who read, follow, or subscribe with a paid sub, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you.
